Anti-Ragging cell
About Anti – Ragging Cell
Anti-Ragging cell is instituted at each college or university to ensure compliance with the provisions of the regulations as well as the provisions of any law for the time being in force concerning ragging. Anti-Ragging Cell should be one of the important part of educational institution’s mechanism. As per the guidelines of UGC under the Act of 1956, which is modified as UGC regulations on curbing the menace of Ragging in higher Educational Institutions, 2009, establishment of Anti –Ragging cell is very compulsory.
Karnataka college of management and science (KCMS) has a set strict rules to be abided by the students in order to keep the campus ragging free. If any student is found ragging any other student, strict action will be taken and punishment will be compulsory given to the student harassing.
Objectives of the cell:
- To aware the students of dehumanizing effect of ragging inherent in its perversity .
- To keep a continuous watch and vigil over ragging so as to prevent its occurrence and recurrence .
- To promptly and stringently deal with the incidents of ragging brought to our notice.
- To prevent any physical or mental torture or any disorderly conduct towards any student causing apprehension, dread, humiliation, or agitation in him or her.
- To maintain KCMS –a ragging free campus.
- To create awareness about ragging & ensure a student –friendly environment at all times .
- To facilitate campus monitoring to ensure nil ragging .
- To generate an atmosphere of discipline be sending a clear message that no act of ragging shall be tolerated and any act of ragging shall not go unnoticed and unpunished.
- The parents shall also have to submit an affidavit during the allotment of the room that their son/daughter/ward will not indulge in any act of ragging, if they found guilty of any aspects of ragging, they may be punished as per the AICTE/UGC/VTU/ Supreme court regulations as in ANNEXURE-III of the application.
Functions of the cell.
- To prevent, prohibit, and Redress any and all forms and instances of ragging in the college.
- To educated the students on the meaning of ragging and what constitutes it.
- To educated the students on the ill-effects of ragging and the consequences, including legal consequences of indulging in ragging .
- To conduct the awareness programmes on the menace of ragging its impact, consequences and redress mechanism available.
- To enquire into instances of ragging that have been reported, if necessary, take all appropriate action against the students found to have indulged in ragging.
6.Assist the principal and other authorities of Karnataka college of management and science if necessary, in notifying the appropriate authorities in case of ragging .
Measures for prevention of ragging.
1.The wardens will [pay regular visits, periodic meetings/ counselling and orientations for students (for fresher’s separately as well as jointly with the seniors).
- The professional counsellors will be called for psychological counselling during the first three months of the new academic year.
- The security personnel posted in the hostels especially at vulnerable places and will be under the direct control of the wardens and assessed by them .If necessary intense policing shall be escorted to at such points at odd hours during early months of academic sessions .
- Anonymous random surveys will be conducted by the wardens or design its own methodologies of conducting such surveys.
- Fresher’s welcome parties will be organized in the hostels by senior students and the hostel management together soon after the admissions , preferably with in first two weeks of the beginning of the academic session, thus helping them to shed their inferiority complex, if any, remove their inhibitions.
- A student seeking admissions to the hostels will have to submit an affidavit during the time of allotment of their room that he/she is also aware of the law in this regard and agrees to abide by the punishment meted out if he/she is found guilty of ragging and/or abetting ragging as in ANNEXURE-II of the application.
Action to be taken against students indulging and abetting ragging
Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offense as established by the anti-ragging committee of the hostels, the possible punishments for those found guilty of ragging at the hostel level shall be any one of or combinations of the following :
- First the matter will be brought to the notice of the secretary of the hostels by the wardens (anti- ragging committee)
- Then the matters shall be informed to the parents /guardian immediately by the wardens and shall ask them to come to the hostels within 48 hours.
- The matter shall also be informed to the principal, concerned HOD’s
- The matter shall also be informed to the placement officer debarring from appearing in any tests/ examination or withdrawing from any placement opportunities.
- Till the parents / guardian arrival, he/she will be suspended from the mess will be provided separate accommodation with minimum facilities
Outcome of the anti –ragging committee.
Students will understand that ragging a student might have ill effect in the environment. They will also understand that if the campus is ragging free it will lead to goodness and peace between seniors and juniors. They will understand that ragging might impact on the person mentally who is being ragged which possibly lead to suicidal attempts. All this can be stopped at once, when the students will understand the effects of ragging. So Karnataka college of management and science had arranged many anti-ragging programs, guest lectures on no to ragging and much more , in order to make students realise all the effects and what will be the impact of ragging to other person.

About Women cell.
The cell has been working to raise a awareness on gender equality issues. The Women Cell is constituted to help maintain a harmonious atmosphere at the institute, to enable women to pursue their work with dignity and reassurance . Prof. Mallika V, Women cell co-ordinator helps in creating awareness amongst the students and organises programs for the students of the college for the women empowerment for the year 2019-2020.
Objective of Women Empowerment program
- To create social awareness about the problems of women and in particular regarding gender discrimination.
- To highlight the importance of health and hygiene.
- To provide and a dignified,congenial working environment for women employees.
Outcome of the program
During the year, the cell provided empowerment to the students of the college and organized various programmes for imparting awareness amongst students the women empowerment for the year Prof. Mallika V, Women cell co-ordinator helps in creating awareness amongst the students and organises programs for the students of the college for the women.
Conclusion
This program helped the students to create more educated society and it had helped students to learn how to empower women in all different aspects, more understanding on how to develop them , how they can keep themselves protected without anybodies help that they are capable of anything to do they want and can excel whatever they want. It had helped the students to realise the importance of education For the women in our society for the betterment of the women the growth of the society . it made students that women’s development can be the potential for the development of the country . To conclude, this programme has brought some changes for the students it has created internal motivation and desire actions to make difference.
